Tattoo Mistakes

In the last decade, have seen pop culture literally explode to all segments of society. None more so is the general acceptance of the public on getting inked!
Younger and younger people are expressing their uniqueness by getting inked - I've personally witnessed a 9-year old getting her first tattoo along with her mother not so long ago!
The practice of getting inked has become so popular, that women feel that in order to be hot they need to cover their "boring" bits with ink.
This has prompted conservatives (including myself) to raise a lot of protest - keeping in line with the fact that the older generations understood the value of getting a tattoo.
Kids who were brought up in the Gen-X period, know this so well. This was actually the beginning when tattoo has become an acceptable practice, albeit parents of this generation does not always approve of the decision; it has nevertheless been less painful to get one than the previous generation.
For you judging folks out there - yes, I did get a tattoo (several of them) over the course of 17-years since I got my first one. This is why I believe I have the duty not to talk teens out of it, but simply share what I've learned (painfully) on what I feel are the cardinal rules when you're getting a tatt....
I've put together this post to give younger generations some advise, that I've felt I could've used when I was younger...
So here are my TOP 5 CARDINAL RULES WHEN YOU GET A TATTOO based on my personal experience:
1. Don't Touch It!
This is one of the first rules that you should never forget when you do decide to get inked!
Its important to understand that the process of getting inked actually involves breaking your skin where the colorant are actually being deposited.
Imagine getting a regular cut and poking your finger on it... Ewww!
Treat your newly inked self as if you'll treating a cut or bruise. Believe me, you don't want it getting infected!
2. Don't Let Your Friends Touch It!
This second rule is pretty much similar to rule 1.
I don't care how cool your friends (or your pets) think your new sleeve tattoo looks like... never ever let their dirty sausages touch your fresh ink!

3. Don't Use Scented Moisturisers or Ointments
Skin ointments or scented moisturisers can contain scent enhancers that might produce allergic reaction...
DONT DO IT!
You can try to ask approved tonics or moisturisers ideally, one that has sanitising properties.

4. Don't Peel Off Dead Skin
This rule applies to any injury for the most part.
Common sense tells us that picking off scabs and dead skin from a cut raising the risk of breaking the newly healed skin underneath.
Rule 4 is a no brainer and should be followed to the tee...

5. Don't Wear Tight Clothing
Despite what you can see, your new tattoo is still healing from deep within. Now, while I do understand how exciting it is to show off your new ink, its not a reason to jump on your skinnies and head-off to the beach with friends.
Never forget, that getting tattooed requires ink pigments to be deposited deep in the dermis layer (around 2mm from your outer skin) which means it might looked heal from the outside, but chances are, you still need a good 2-3 weeks to heal everything from the inside.
